Galactic British Empire – 15 years later

15 years have passed since the massacre at New Cambridge, military spending throughout the colonies has crippled those fledgling economies but is seen as totally necessary by the new Emperor and his military commanders.

The raids carried out by the Shades have continued, and the galactic Navy has been thinly spread. His Royal Highness signed a decree committing seemingly limitless funds to military production, and R&D into both advanced weapon systems and the Wormhole Portal Project, which has been developed as an offshoot of the extra orbital Future Unified Stepping Stone project. His magnificence was strongly criticised in some quarters, and whilst those dissenting voices were quickly and mysteriously quietened, our beloved ruler did see fit to deliver a stirring and no doubt heartfelt address to his subjects, the utter majesty of his words were a joy to hear for all those who claimed to be starving in the Imperial colonies, after all, as his unerringness pointed out, “if the colonists can’t find a sufficient supply of breaded goods, then, why, let them eat Steak Bakes for goodness sake!”.

These wise and timely investments into the Imperial military have begun to deliver amazing results. The Portal network, a glowing success, is growing slowly but steadily and both the ground support forces, whose timely deployments are enabled by the Portals, and the various colony air forces are starting to take delivery of new weapons platform prototypes. There have been some suggestions that these portals may well come in useful for delivery foodstuffs and building materials once their military uses have been exhausted but we are obviously a long way from that point.

Other new technology is also starting to make its way to the front lines as many of the Emperor’s friends and relatives own magnificently productive Military engineering companies, all of whom have obviously benefitted from the generous R&D budgets and Imperial production orders. This is undoubtedly great news for the whole Empire, with many of these companies employing tens of people to oversee the automated production facilities. We expect to see many new and exciting machines of war over the coming years and we most definitely appreciate the efforts of all those blessed companies that are producing them, they are most assuredly worthy of the very healthy profit margins that the Imperial contracts afford them.

It will soon be time to start taking the fight to the Shades…
